According to Gongbei Customs, since the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) in October 2018, the total imports and exports via the HZMB's Zhuhai Port have amounted to 808.89 billion yuan as of February this year. In the first two months of this year, the total import and export value was 31.07 billion yuan, up 24.8% year on year; the number of inbound and outbound trucks under customs supervision exceeded 86,900, up 25.7% year on year.

At present, the destinations of cargo exported or imported via the Port have covered 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in the Chinese mainland, and the number of countries and regions involved has increased from 105 in 2018 to over 230 this year.

Customs clearance accelerated

Since prefabricated building modules from the Chinese mainland are highly favoured by Hong Kong's construction businesses, the Port has come up with a new measure. The high demand for quick construction material delivery calls for quick customs clearance to ease import and export processes for constructors. Thus, the one-stop system at the Port ensures that vehicles can complete clearance within 3 minutes, which shortens the whole process from loading in Zhuhai to unloading in Hong Kong to only 6 hours.

Ma Shaowei, the section chief of the Department of General Operation of Gongbei Customs, says that from January to February this year, construction materials exported via the Zhuhai Port were worth 805 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%.

EV export accelerated

Thanks to favourable policies, the export of electric vehicles (EVs), lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products saw a growth of nearly 30% last year. With practical surveys, Gongbei Customs pays close attention to the policy dynamics for the export of EVs and promptly informs EV enterprises of the latest customs policies and market signals. In addition, a 24-hour customs clearance hotline and quick customs inspections are set to support the development of automobile manufacturing enterprises. From January to February this year, the imports and exports of manned EVs via the Port exceeded 90 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 139.3%.

Chinese jewellery shines globally

Jewellery is another major export type, but its delivery, both the import of raw materials and the export of finished products, requires timeliness due to the great impact of the international price of raw materials. To support jewellery processing enterprises, HZMB Customs provides them with integrated customs clearance service and specialized equipment inspection to ensure stable and smooth logistics and supply chains.

From January to February this year, the imports and exports of jewellery via the Port amounted to 8.611 billion yuan, including rings and bracelets with gold, silver, diamonds, and gemstones.
