On December 14, the 2023 National High-Performance Medical Device Innovation Ecological Summit with the theme of "Innovation Leads Ecosystem Incubation" was held in Shenzhen. This summit brings together well-known academicians, industry leaders, clinical experts, and investors to discuss latest technology, innovation cooperation, and share achievements, creating a high-end, high-standard, and advanced medical device industry event. This positioned Shenzhen as the leading and world-class advanced medical device industry cluster and continues to build a full-chain innovation ecosystem of high-performance medical devices.
Building an international exchange platform
Shenzhen’s advanced medical equipment industry has a good foundation. In 2022, Shenzhen's medical device output value is 98.6 billion CNY, with more than 1,800 medical device manufacturers, including 3 of the world's top 100 medical device companies and 53 national "little giant" medical device companies, forming a clustering development. Currently, Shenzhen's advanced medical device industry is moving to the global stage.
At this summit, the NEVC (National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center) jointly launched more than 100 medical device innovation projects with the Centre for Healthcare Innovation of the Ministry of Health of Singapore, Israel investor - Treadlines (China), Singapore's Nanyang Technological University Innovation Center and Germany's Medical Valley iCCA MT, building an international exchange platform and accelerating the pace of global medical innovation. The NEVC also established strategic cooperation with numbers of institutions such as Sinopharm, Huawei, working together to research and develop the key technologies in the medical device industry, and having a comprehensive enhancement of the innovation capabilities.
Creating a platform for the medical equipment industry
Shenzhen Longhua District released the plan for the international medical equipment city. It focuses on positioning Shenzhen as an "advanced medical equipment industry R&D and manufacturing base station ", strive to build the Shenzhen first and China largest advanced medical equipment industry development cluster - Shenzhen International Medical Equipment City. The city has a total planned area of 20 square kilometres, including 6.5 square kilometres core area and 13.5 square kilometres expansion area. It is planned to create a 7-in-1 advanced medical equipment industry platform of "production, research, exhibition, medical, education, recuperation and residence".
The China Association of Medical Equipment Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Representative Office and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Advanced Medical Equipment Acceleration Center were officially unveiled and landed in Longhua, promoting Longhua District to focus on national projects, national platforms and other resources, to establish an advanced medical equipment brand.
Climb "high" and move "new". As the spotlight of this summit, the 2023 China medical device industry rankings and awards were announced. 10 universities and research institutes, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yiwu Research Institute of Fudan University, and Shenzhen University, were assessed as "2023 Biomedical Engineering Innovation platforms (Universities and Research Institutes)"; 10 hospitals including West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University were assessed as "2023 Pilot Hospitals for the Transformation of Innovation"; 10 investors including YuanBio Venture Capital, Proxima Ventures, and Shenzhen Capital Group were rated as "2023 Excellent Investors for China Medical Device Industry".
